Kombucha from the grocery store comes in hefty glass bottles that are great for repurposing. Here are 12 ideas that can give your bottle a second, or third life.
Recently, we have accumulated a number of glass kombucha bottles in our recycling bins. Drawn to the unique shape and heft of the glass bottles, I salvaged a few from the recycling bin for some projects. Below are a dozen ways I have though to reuse the bottles. Have more ideas? Comment below!
1. Flower Vase
Simple and sweet, you can simply remove the lid and add a bunch of colorful flowers, either fresh cut or faux. The wide opening at the top can accommodate several stems and hold enough water to keep the flora fresh for days to come.
2. Water Bottle
Tired of lugging around a huge reusable bottle? This size bottle is perfect for short trips, or to use as an excuse to get up and refill several times a day. What a good way to get some extra steps into your day!
3. Bulk Item Container
Want to get one of the delicious looking snacks from the bulk food isle at Martin's or the Friendly City Food Co-Op? No need to bring in a huge container, kombucha bottles are a perfect size to fit into your bag and top off your supply of dried beans, sugar or roasted nuts (perfect to snack out of too!).
4. Sand Art Vessel
Remember making layered sand art at summer camp? Relive the magic of summers past by making your own sand art. Clear kombucha bottles are perfect for viewing intricate layers of colored sand that matches your home decor.
5. Milk/Creamer Caddy
I've been making tea at work, but I always like to add in milk. Rather than using the small, disposable pods of creamer, I have started refilling my kombucha bottle with milk from home to bring into the office. One bottle just about last me the full week and I can use my preferred type of milk rather than the shelf-stable creamer!
6. Soap Storage
Bulk items don't just have to be dry food ingredients! Retailers like Bring Your Own LLC also provide options for bulk purchasing cleaning products like laundry detergent and dish soap. Have an extra container of dish soap on hand by refilling a reused kombucha bottle with dish soap from a local bulk retailer.
7. Fairy Light Lantern
Fairy light lanterns are a popular trend with repurposed wine and beer bottles, but their small openings can make it difficult to insert and arrange the sting of lights. Use a kombucha bottle to get the same effect with more ease, looks especially good with brown kombucha bottles!
8. Time Capsule
Save small trinkets and notes to your future self in an emptied kombucha bottle. The thick, durable glass and plastic cap are sure to keep out moisture and grime for years either buried in a the back of a drawer or outside in a flower bed. Give yourself a special blast from the past on a future date of your choosing.
9. Vinegar Infuser
Infused vinegar is another trend that is sweeping Pinterest. Make recipes like these by pouring vinegar and adding different herbs and fruits. Makes great cleaning products, dressings, and gifts!
10. Homemade Hot Sauce Decanter
Need something spicier? Why not dabble in homemade hot sauce? Glass kombucha bottles are the perfect material and size to store your creations and give out to the brave souls who are willing to try your hot concoctions. Get started with this simple recipe.
11. Juice Jug
Sometime mornings I'm just not in the mood for coffee or tea, but I don't have time to sit and pour out a glass of orange juice. Grab a clean kombucha bottle, fill it up with your favorite carton of fruit juice and be on your way. It's the perfect amount and the cap keeps it spill-proof on your way out the door.
12. Noise Maker
Have a celebration worth making noise over? Fill a kombucha bottle partially with beads, pebbles, etc. and shake to your heart's content! No musical experience required.
